Silverlight, PivotViewer Control

PivotViewer

The Silverlight PivotViewer makes it easier to interact with massive amounts of data on the web in ways that are powerful, informative, and valuable. PivotViewer lets us present thousands of things at once and visualize them in a way that exposes value from the group. PivotViewer experiences range in complexity to build. All involve the creation of a collection. PivotViewer is now available for you to begin building and embedding your collections directly onto your webpage.

The Coolest Microsoft Tool You May Never See

Written by Rob Salkowitz

Pivot, which was positioned as a reinvention of the Web browser when it debuted in 2009, is now PivotViewer, a Silverlight app that enables end users to instantly build custom visualizations of dynamic datasets. By organizing the data visually, it lets you discover relationships at a glance that would ordinarily take hours of number-crunching. You can also slice, dice, zoom, and scatter the data, even as it's updating from a remote Website or server.

HTML5

HTML5 is the next major revision of the HTML standard, currently under development.
Like its immediate predecessors, HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, HTML5 is a standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. The new standard incorporates features like video playback and drag-and-drop that have been previously dependent on third-party browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight.

Silverlight

Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework for building media experiences and rich interactive applications for the web, the desktop, and the Windows Phone.

Controversy:
Silverlight, DOA

Microsoft's head of servers and tools division, Bob Muglia’s statement that Microsoft has shifted strategy towards Silverlight and they are emphasizing on HTML5 as only true cross platform solution.

This made the developer around the world very disappointed feeling they have wasted their time and money on the Silverlight as next generation web platform solution.
